Lucien Henry :: Three weeks

 He's three weeks old and we are all under his beautiful baby spell:

Journaling:

03 AUG 2010. It’s been three weeks since you arrived. And it’s safe to say you are quite a great sleeper – a claim we didn’t dare declare too boldly the first week in case you did a one-eighty. Another observation is that you do not cry much. Of course, neither of those is true when I decide to have a beer with dinner. Then you make me pay big time. And I wake up wondering if one beer is really worth a sleepless night. Although the answer is a resounding No! I’ll admit getting out of bed at two or three or four in the morning to feed you, change a diaper or help you pass gas is nothing short of wonderful. I love to smell you. I love to feel you. I love to hear your little bleats. Love, Maman

100% digital. No artificial flavors.

Internet, I made my first-ever one-hundred-percent-digital layout. Although I have already worked with digital elements to create hybrid pages, this all-digital page was born out of necessity. Being in Biarritz with our little Lucien means I have plenty of time on my hands while everyone is at the beach for part of the day. I didn't bring any scrapbook supplies, but I have my laptop (with recent photos) and plenty of stories to tell.

I browsed blogs and online digital galleries to get an idea of the elements and style I wanted. Next I stocked up on a few digital supplies (solid and patterned papers and a few embellishments from Designer Digitals and Jessica Sprague). I was quickly overwhelmed by the choices and variety of supplies available (much like when I first started scrapbooking!) so I stuck to basics. Then it was time to get to work. This is what I came up with:

The most difficult part for me was choosing the embellishments and deciding whether or not to use drop shadows. I used drop shadows on the staples and birdhouse stamp above the title.

For the journaling I took a cue from Cathy’s layout (I can't find the link, but it's a layout about her husband and daughter where her husband wrote the journaling! Edit: here is the link to Cathy's layout I'm talking about) and asked Thierry to write it. The layout is about a weekend he spent with Andrea so it seemed appropriate for him to narrate. This is my favorite part of the layout.

I enjoyed the process and have already started another layout. and have a few ideas spinning around in my head. Obviously part of the process is very different from traditional or hybrid scrapbooking, but the end result is the same.
